If I Was a Tree Summary

1st PUC English Chapter 7 If I Was A tree
If I Was A tree

If I Was a Tree” is a poem written by Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy. The poet depicts himself as a tree. The bird wouldn’t ask him before it built its nest. When the sunlight beat heavily his shadow wouldn’t feel defiled. His friendship with the wind and the leaves is great.

It is a very sweet experience to be in friendship with the cool breeze and the leaves. When there is heavy rain it takes away my leaves and floats on the ground. When the stem is broken from the roots, the mother earth would be damaged.

The cow which is considered as sacred is scraping her body on its bark. It scratches whenever it itches. The tree is very happy that the three hundred thousand gods sheltering inside her would touch it. At the end, the tree is hacked into pieces of dry wood, and put in burning in the holy fire. And it became a bier for a sinless body. And it would be borne on the shoulders of four good men.
