- Waterloo – It is in Belgium. In 1815, Napoleon fought his last battle here against the Allied armies of Europe, known as the Battle of Waterloo.
- Hiroshima – It is in Japan. The first atomic bomb was dropped on this city by the U.S.A. in 1945, destroying it and killing around 80,000 people.
- Lisbon – It is the capital city of Portugal. Most Portuguese navigators, including Vasco da Gama during the Age of Discovery, started their voyages from here.
- Moscow – It is the capital city of Russia, located on the banks of the river Moskva. It was one of the main centres of the Russian Revolution of 1917.
- Mecca – It is in Saudi Arabia. Prophet Mohammed, the founder of Islam, was born here, and it is regarded as the holiest city of Islam.
- Berlin – It is the capital city of Germany. After World War II, it was divided into East and West Berlin, but in 1990 both were united.
- Constantinople – Presently called Istanbul in Turkey. The Ottoman Turks captured it in 1453, leading to the discovery of new sea routes.
- Cape of Good Hope – It is in South Africa. Bartholomew Diaz called it the “Cape of Storms,” later renamed as the Cape of Good Hope by Vasco da Gama.

- Rome: It is the capital of Italy and was once the capital of the Roman Empire. Vatican City in Rome is the religious centre of Catholics, headed by the Pope.
- Paris: It is the capital city of France, ruled by the Bourbon family until the French Revolution of 1789. In modern times, many important historical treaties were signed here.
- Nagasaki: Located in Japan, it was the second city attacked with an atomic bomb by the USA on August 9, 1945. More than 70,000 people were killed as a result.
- Babylonia: Situated in present-day Iraq, it was the capital of the Mesopotamian civilization. Hammurabi, the famous lawgiver, ruled here, and Nebuchadnezzar built the Hanging Gardens.
- Alexandria: Located in northern Egypt, it was founded by Alexander the Great. It served as a cultural link between Greece and the Nile Valley.
- London: The capital of the United Kingdom, situated on the River Thames. It became the main centre of the Industrial Revolution.
- Geneva: Located in Switzerland, it was a centre of the Protestant movement. Today, it hosts international organizations like ILO, WHO, WTO, and GATT.
- Athens: Present capital city of Greece and an ancient city-state of Greek civilization. It was named after the Goddess Athena and is regarded as the cradle of democracy.

- Versailles: Located in France, Louis XIV built the grand Palace of Versailles here. After World War I, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919 between Germany and the Allied powers.
- Jerusalem: It is in Israel and is a holy city for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Jesus was crucified here in 30 C.E.
- New York: Located in the U.S.A., it was once a British colony. Today, it is home to the headquarters of the United Nations Organisation (UNO).
- Hiroshima: Situated in Japan, it was the first city to face an atomic bomb dropped by the U.S.A. in 1945. Around 80,000 people were killed, and the city was destroyed.
